SUMMARY

Pilotage is a complex profession, often little understood by port management and ship’s personnel as well as the general public. This course will reveal and explain in detail the many and varied disciplines that are involved in the piloting of ships.

If you are an experienced mariner, then some of the subjects covered within this 3-day course will be familiar whilst others may not. If you do not have an extensive maritime background, then the variety of subjects addressed may come as a surprise. In accord with IMO resolution A960, the course will give you a broad knowledge and understanding of the underlying varied and often complex disciplines at the core of the maritime pilotage profession.

This knowledge and theoretical training alone will not be enough to give the levels of expertise required to practice those skills. That can only be acquired through actual real life (“on the job”) experience along with specialized learning and practical training specific to the port environment the individual pilot works in.
