Workshop Overview

This three-day training will offer both seagoing and shore personnel an in-depth understanding of oil company chartering, performance analysis, risk management, vetting processes and physical inspections. The OCIMF Ship Inspection Report (SIRE) Programme is used as a basis to understand the expectations of charterers and SIRE results analysed to identify, measure and minimise risks.

The greatly expanded course discusses oil company concerns relating to vessel selection, risk assessment and measurement. Suggestions are offered as to how Operators can use the same techniques to identify/reduce risk and drive quality across the fleet and to most effectively demonstrate performance to charterers.

Use of SIRE data to analyse Observations and quantify associated risks is demonstrated. Self-inspections by Masters/Superintendents to deliver timely corrective actions are discussed and benchmarked against SIRE inspection results to identify/measure risks associated with fleet, vessel and personnel performance.

The course combines lectures with practical exercises to raise awareness of issues that are critical to oil companies and the inspectors who undertake SIRE inspections. A virtual “walk-around” of a tanker looks at many issues of concern and encourages attendees to think like an inspector. Action plans to assign responsibility and efficiently rectify shortcomings revealed in inspection reports are also addressed
